Derek  Downey

Biography

Derek Downey has been part of the Wanderers Junior A team for more years than most can remember. Known for his calm and controlled manner when dealing with referees and fellow players alike (ahem.....), he has been ever present and reliable at Full Back for the last number of seasons. He is a home and away Dublin supporter, spending most weekends either playing for Wanderers or travelling to see Dublin play, be it in February or September. Since splashing out on a gum shield in the famous Dental appointment of 2008, many team mates are still looking for a refund as it has failed to limit his ability to "share advice" during matches. A three time Conlon Cup winner, Derek is one of the most committed players in the club.
